Arnie Boehm Ontario Novice Championships
Motor City recently sent 2 boxers to the Arnie Boehm Ontario Novice Championships.

In the 69 kg Youth division, Dustyn Perry received a bye to the Semi-Final round, where he met up with a very technical fighter, Andrew Raposo of the Spartan Boxing Club. Perry started strong & built an early lead, but Raposo weathered the storm & managed to hang in for the victory.

Motor City's entry in the 69 kg Elite division was none other than Tyler "The Bodybagger" Tilley. This welterweight phenom entered the tournament with a perfect 5-0 record. Like his teammate, Tilley also was given a bye to the semi-finals. His first match was against a less-experienced boxer from Toronto. Tilley dominated his opponent building an early lead & landing a solid right hand late in the first round which broke his opponent's nose. At this point, the referee intervened & stopped the fight, allowing "The Bodybagger" to advance to the next round.

The gold-medal match would prove to be Tilley's toughest yet. His opponent, Darren Gonzalez of the Kombat Arts Boxing Club in Mississauga, was a heavy puncher with bad intentions. The first round started slow with Gonzalez building an early lead. Approximately one-minute into the round, the Mississauga slugger landed a solid right hand which buckled Tilley's knees & dropped him to the canvas for the first time in his young career. The Motor City fighter dug deep inside himself & managed to not only beat the referee's count, but he also turned the fight around & finished the round with a 5 point lead!

The fans were glued to their seats as they witnessed an exciting 2nd & 3rd round where Gonzales repeatedly tried to take Tilley out, but Tilley's superior boxing skills made this an impossible feat. When the final bell rang, the Oshawa pugilist had earned a 22-16 win, improving his record to a perfect 7-0 (2) while Gonzalez falls to 5-1.

Next on the agenda for Team Motor City is the Ontario Open-Class Provincial Championships. Evan Gillard, Luke Caride, Cody Nixon, Ahmed Karatella, Clay Dales, Phil Rose & Brandon Cook will travel to Windsor from Oct 29 - Nov 1 in hopes of qualifying for the national championships early in the new year.
