Ben Whittaker is set to fulfill his promise of increased activity in 2024.
The dynamic light heavyweight prospect will step back into the ring on March 31, supporting the highly anticipated Fabio Wardley-Frazer Clarke British heavyweight title clash. While his opponent for the event is yet to be confirmed, the decision to include Whittaker in the lineup follows his recent fifth-round knockout victory over Khalid Graidia earlier this month.
“For me, staying active is crucial,” Whittaker shared with BoxingScene.com before his bout with Graidia. “My goal for this year is to raise my profile and become a recognizable name. While we initially aimed for a higher-profile bout and a ten-rounder, this fight is an opportunity to start the year in the ring.”
“I aim to compete at least five times in 2024, possibly even securing a title by the year’s end and earning a ranking.”
The March 31 event will be broadcast live on Sky Sports in the U.K. and Peacock+ in the U.S. from The O2 in London.
Whittaker (6-0, 5 KOs) gained widespread attention following his recent victory, particularly for his flamboyant style and antics during the fight.
While some traditionalists criticized his in-ring behavior, others appreciated the entertainment value he brought to the sport. Ben Shalom, founder and CEO of BOXXER, expressed confidence in Whittaker’s potential, citing his charisma and skill as attributes that could propel him to superstardom.
Whittaker’s upcoming fight marks his second appearance this year and his third within a sixteen-week span, reflecting his commitment to staying active in the ring. Despite previous injuries in his career, the 26-year-old Olympic Silver medalist aims to make a significant impact in the boxing world.
His inclusion on the card adds to the excitement surrounding the event, which already features the Florian Marku-Chris Kongo welterweight showdown and the return of Alen Babic. Light heavyweight contender Callum Simpson is also slated to compete in preliminary action against an opponent yet to be announced.
